A delegation from Médecins Sans Frontières visited on Tuesday Gaza Community Mental Health Programme to introduce the activities and services they provide in Gaza and discuss the prospects of establishing cooperation and partnership.
The delegation included Mr Luciano Canchelara, Mental Health Activity Manager; Pina Deiana, Mental Health Coordinator and MSF national psychologist; Ms Marwa Qasem, Support Coordinator.
The delegation was received by Dr Yasser Abu Jamei, GCMHP Director General; Qusai Abu Odei, Head of External Relations and Resource Development Department; Dr Sami Oweida, GCMHP Gaza Centre Director; Inas Judei, Head of Training Unit; and Marwan Diab, Head of Research Unit.
The meeting started with an introduction by the delegation about the activities and services MSF provides in Gaza and the work mechanism that is followed.
Dr Abu Jamei, on his part, talked about the services and programmes that GCMHP implement and the effort done to support the wellbeing and resilience of the Palestinian community. He also talked about the huge pressure on the mental health services due to the deterioration of the political and economic situation.
Dr Oweida, made a brief presentation about the interventions that Gaza Centre provides, especially those provided to children, explaining the main disorders that have been identified in recent years.
Followed his presentation, Mrs Juda, also talked about using psychodrama with traumatized children and the process through which this intervention is provided.
At the end of the visit, the two sides agreed to have a series of meetings to arrange for partnership and to reinforce their efforts through cooperation.
