GCMHP conducted a group psychosocial support session for a group of adolescent girls aged 15-18, entitled "Understanding and Consciously Managing Stress." Fifteen participants attended the session.
The interactive session focused on introducing participants to the concept of stress and its various sources. It also explored the most prominent physical, intellectual, and behavioral signs of stress through discussions and examples drawn from their daily lives. This approach enhanced their awareness of the nature of stress and helped them understand and express their feelings in a healthy way.
The session also included practical training in a range of effective stress and emotional management skills, including deep breathing exercises, the countdown technique for stress control, and the "stop-think-act" mechanism to promote a conscious response to stressful situations, along with physical release exercises to alleviate physical tension. The practical component concluded with a supportive recreational activity that fostered interaction among the participants and created a safe and encouraging environment for participation and expression.
The session concluded by emphasizing the importance of mental health, promoting positive coping skills, and encouraging participants to seek psychological support when needed. They were also introduced to the psychological support services offered by GCMHP, including the free telephone counseling (1800222333), which facilitates access to psychosocial support services.
