  • Previews 21

GCMHP conducted an awareness session for young people titled "Suicide Prevention and Encouraging the Seeking of Help and Psychological Support," attended by 25 young men and women.

The session aimed to raise awareness among youth regarding the concept of suicide and its associated risk factors, and to help them recognize signs and indicators of severe psychological distress or suicidal thoughts. It also emphasized the importance of expressing emotions and seeking help and support in a timely manner.

Furthermore, the session addressed the vital role of family, friends, and the social environment in supporting individuals experiencing psychological crises. It highlighted the importance of non-judgmental listening and sought to correct common misconceptions surrounding suicide and mental health.

The session employed an interactive approach—featuring dialogue, discussion, and Q&A—giving participants the opportunity to express their views and feelings in a safe, respectful environment, while underscoring the importance of maintaining privacy and respecting the feelings of others.

At the conclusion of the session, participants were introduced to GCMHP’s services and the importance of consulting professionals when needed. They were also provided with the program’s telephone counseling number (1800222333) to help foster a culture of seeking help and psychological support, and to encourage young people not to face crises and psychological pressures alone.
