“Spaces for Joy and Expression: Recreational Activities and Psychosocial Support for Adolescent Girls in Gaza”

  • Previews 48

Amid the exceptional circumstances facing girls in the Gaza Strip, and the psychological and social pressures imposed by displacement and the impact of war, GCMHP continues to implement a series of psychosocial support sessions and interactive recreational activities for adolescent girls. These initiatives aim to provide a safe, supportive space where they can express their feelings, alleviate psychological stress, and reclaim moments of joy and connection with their peers.

These activities are part of the project "Improving the Availability of Youth and their Caregivers to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Quality Services in Gaza Strip." in partnership with the Belgian Agency for International Cooperation - Enabel, and funded by the Belgian Government.

The activities ranged from recreational games to interactive exercises that encouraged participation, social interaction, and teamwork. They helped the girls express their emotions and needs in safe, positive ways, thereby boosting self-confidence, developing communication skills, and strengthening their ability to cope with the pressures and challenges surrounding them.

These gatherings offer adolescent girls the opportunity to spend positive time with their peers in a supportive environment, away from the atmosphere of tension and daily stress, fostering a sense of belonging, connection, and mutual support. The atmosphere of the gatherings reflected a remarkable level of enthusiasm, interaction, and engagement; the young women found in these activities an opportunity to express themselves, share moments of joy, and strengthen positive bonds with their peers.

GCMHP continues its efforts to provide mental health and psychosocial support services tailored to the needs of youth and adolescents. This commitment stems from the belief in the importance of creating safe, supportive environments that enable them to express their feelings, enhance their resilience, and maintain their psychosocial well-being amidst current circumstances.
