“GCMHP Provided Psychological Support Services for Orphaned Children in Gaza”

The Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP) conducted psychosocial support and emotional release sessions for orphaned children affected by the current aggression on the Gaza Strip. The activities were implemented within the “Noor” Orphans Support Programme at the Deir Al-Balah and Gaza City Community Centers, in partner ship with Taawon.

The sessions aimed to help children express their feelings and release emotional stress through drawing and recreational activities, which contribute to reducing psychological pressure and enhancing their sense of safety. Group activities also helped strengthen social connections and encourage positive interaction among the children.

At the end of the activities, each child was invited to share the story behind their drawing, providing an additional space for expression and communication. Parents expressed their great happiness with their children’s participation, emphasizing the urgent need for such supportive sessions during this difficult time.

It is worth noting that the protocol developed by the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme for working with orphaned children includes several key services. These services comprise the provision of Psychological First Aid (PFA), psychological counseling for children and caregivers, diagnosticassessments,art-basedtherapeuticsessions, and specialized clinical mental health services offered through the community centers. In addition, the protocol includes targeted awareness programs designed for caregivers and parents.
