CGMHP carried out two awareness sessions in the displacement camps of Al-Nuseirat, targeting displaced children and their mothers.
First Session: Supporting Displaced Children
The first session, titled “Enhancing Safety and Emotional Release for Displaced Children and Self- Care”, was attended by 29 children aged 4–10. The session aimed to:
* Release negative psychological emotions among children affected by displacement and war.
* Strengthen children’s sense of safe play and free-expression techniques.
* Support their mental well-being using safe play and free-expression techniques.
A number of activities were delivered, including:
* A welcoming and introductory circle.
* Physical games to release energy.
* Simple breathing exercises.
* A group activity featuring a short story titled “A Safe Place I Love.”
* A collective interactive song to promote shared joy.
Children showed a high level of engagement, especially during the movement games and singing activities, highlighting the importance of continuing such interventions. Camp facilitators requested that similar sessions be held regularly, integrating psychosocial activities into the daily routines of children and ensuring a safe, organized space for these practices.
Second Session: Supporting Mothers
The second session, titled “Psychological Safety in Times of Crisis: Calming Techniques and Self-Support for Displaced Women”, was attended by 30 mothers.
The session aimed to:
* Introduce the concept of mental health.
* Teach calming and relaxation techniques and explain their effects on the body and mind.
* Clarify the symptoms that require seeking professional help.
Participants practiced several grounding and relaxation techniques, including deep breathing and a guided imagery exercise where mothers visualized a safe place while repeating a personal calming phrase chosen by the group, such as: “I am in God’s safety, God is with me.”
The mothers expressed strong positive engagement, noting that the techniques helped them feel calmer and more in control of their emotions. They also requested additional similar sessions in the future. Participants were introduced to GCMHP’s toll-free psychological support hotline 1800222333 for consultations or further assistance.
